21 day plant-based shopping journey with friends
So recently, I decided to offer a 21 day plant-based journey to those who reached out to me and needed some support. On this day, we all went grocery shopping together where I was able to support them by finding vegan friendly food. As simple as this might sound, it really isn't. Constantly reading ingredients, asking for help, being efficient as possible. We took our time and enjoyed the process.
Key skills I explain to my students:
Start with whole foods first, let that be the bulk of your grocery shopping.
Get in the habit of looking at these items and learning how to make meals out of them (see my free 10 basic grocery guide, to see how I move through my list).
“Just keep being true to yourself, if you're passionate about something go for it. Don't sacrifice anything, just have fun. - Blake Lewis”
Reading ingredients and guiding others through the plant-based journey in a happy healthy way.
The vegan journey
Even though I offer this for 21 days (the class before I did 40 days) it doesn't mean everything stops right after. The 21 days is to get the individual going in the right path, after the initial journey is over, it could take them the rest of their "days" to really figure this lifestyle out. At some point, it should feel natural and not a task or diet.
Become more conscious when grocery shopping:
Often times we buy things without giving them a second thought such as:
What are the ingredients?
Is it organic?
How many minerals does this item have and which ones?
How will this benefit me short term and long term?
Was there any cruelty endured? How do I feel about that?
Where was this grown/produced? location of farms, the country it came from, in-house farming vs outdoor farming matters?
What environment did these animals endure to get to my plate?
This is what we call "process", becoming more involved and aware of the process. Many people do not care to know how animals scream in pain or how this has an impact on our environment such as wild fires, global warming, poor health, etc.
I asked every individual that works with me, if you had to watch a video of the meat you buy before buying it in the grocery store, would you still buy it? 100% of them said no after viewing what the process really entails. However, due to the process being out of sight and out of mind, it has little empathy on us. Now, we are growing into a world that is evolving and changing, we are in the "information age".
We have witnessed this in the past with slavery, public smoking, and other things that were deemed "normal", but eventually changed our thoughts and allowed us to become more caring. This subject always comes across as touchy, but as we move into truth and a greater future, these are topics that must be discussed.
No bee's were harmed in this photo. One thing I did change in my vegan journey was using honey, there are many debates about this, however due to the cruelty and impact this has on the environment and bees's, I teach my class to use alternatives. Not only for environmental or ethical reasons, however agave is very alkaline which is highly valuable to the body.
My tasks for you next time you go grocery shopping is to download my grocery guide and ask yourself a few of these questions....
Throughout my blog you will learn how these very decisions will impact your life.
